Travel and Medical Insurance

All international students require medical & travel insurance to cover the entire length of their study period in New Zealand. This is part of the requirements set out by New Zealand’s Code of Practice.

Otago Boys’ High School uses a reputable insurance company called Uni-Care. Please check the website for full details. www.uni-care.org

If you want to use a different insurance provider, you need to give the school a copy of the policy in English so that the school can check that this meets the requirements of the Code of Practice.

Pre-arrival

Once your travel plans are confirmed please email the International Department with your full flight details so we can confirm accommodation arrangements and arrange to meet you at the airport. Please provide travel details at least two weeks before your arrival.

Please read the handbook for new International students.

School Handbook for International Students

Please note the following important aspects from the handbook:

  • It may be cheaper/advisable to bring black shoes with you. Black leather lace-up shoes are good.
  • If you are enrolling at senior level (Years 11-13) it would be advisable to bring at least three long-sleeved plain white shirts or buy them at home
  • You should bring a scientific calculator.
  • Dental treatment is expensive in NZ, so if it has been a while since the last dental check, we strongly recommend that you have one before you come.
  • If you haven’t had an eye check for a while, this would best be done before you come.
