Old Boy Awarded Inaugural University Scholarship

Congratulations to Old Boy Alexander Lea (OBHS 2022–2025), who has been named the inaugural recipient of the University of Otago and Dunedin City Council Entrance Scholarship.

Alexander, now studying towards a Bachelor of Science majoring in Computer Science at University of Otago, was awarded the newly established scholarship in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the information technology field and his service to the community.

The scholarship, established in 2025 and valued at $15,000, reflects the wishes of late former Dunedin Mayor Jules Radich that it support a student pursuing studies in information technology.

Alexander has already built an impressive record of service and innovation. He regularly volunteers with Rotary International, assisting with book sales, charity fundraising, and rally race security. He also contributes to iFixit, helping others through online repair forums for smartphones and laptops, and has recently begun volunteering with Com2Tech, a local organisation focused on reducing digital inequity through technology recycling, re-use, and education.

Alongside his studies and volunteering, Alexander builds and hosts his own computer game servers and hopes to pursue a career in network engineering.

We are incredibly proud of Alexander’s achievement and wish him every success for the future.
