The hostel hosted some Christ's College boys on Sunday evening in preparation for their Interschool rivalry on Monday, 4 May.
The Christ's College boys were all very polite, well behaved, and a pleasure to be around. We were very fortunate that the sun shone, showcasing Dunedin in all its autumn splendour earlier in the week.
After very intense competition and some sensational finishes, I am proud to report that Otago Boys’ was triumphant against Christ's College, winning three out of the four sporting codes.
OBHS Hockey 1st XI won 2–1
OBHS Rugby 1st XV won 34–29
OBHS Football 1st XI won 1–0
OBHS Basketball lost 83–94 to C.C.
Our School House midweek basketball battle saw Campbell House win both the Junior and Senior games. It was a great way for the boys to let off some steam before bed as the inter-house battle for the overall top-dog position continues.
The boys are looking forward to the upcoming Wānanga Days, starting Friday 8 May and running until Friday 15 May. Six days are set aside across their six subjects so they can focus on catching up where needed and dedicate time to attending to any internals that may be due.
Saturday, 9 May at 4.30 pm sees the Highlanders take on the Waratahs in the final home game at Forsyth Barr Stadium. A number of our hostel boys will take this opportunity to go down to watch the game and show their ongoing support.
Junior Man of the Week – Seth Black
Seth has settled well into School House and manages himself quietly with a sense of pride and resilience. A great start, Seth. Keep it up.
Senior Man of the Week – Mason Kingan
Mason joined us this year from North Otago and has fully embraced life at School House. He plays hard on the hockey field and works hard too. He is always cheerful and enthusiastic to be around.
If parents have any of the following items that they are happy to move on, they would be most appreciated:
spare ice cream containers
old towels or tea towels
hunting and fishing magazines or books suitable for the boys to read in the Prep Room
These can be left in the foyer or office. Thank you.
A friendly reminder to please be mindful when booking appointments for your sons. If possible, these are best made after school to ensure the least disruption to the school day and minimise any potential loss of learning. Thank you.
Final words from Matron
Look after the hostel.
Look after yourself.
Look after others.
Noho ora mai – stay well, take care.
