OBHS Parents' Association Update

By OBHS Parents' Association | Posted: Tuesday May 5, 2026

The Otago Boys’ Parents’ Association has started 2026 with several new members, and we warmly welcome more parents and caregivers to join us at any time.

We are fortunate that the Rector has given us the opportunity this year to hold our meetings in the beautifully refurbished Shand Building. Our next meeting will be at 7.00 pm on Thursday, 28 May, upstairs in the Shand Conference Room.

Our guest speaker will be Andy Willmott, HOD of Health at Otago Boys’. This is a great opportunity to connect with other parents and caregivers, learn more about the Health curriculum at Otago Boys’, and offer feedback and direction as part of its biennial review. Light refreshments will be provided, and we look forward to seeing you there.

The Parents’ Association also continues to run Otago Boys’ second-hand uniform sales. We held several events during summer, with strong demand for uniforms. These events are also a valuable opportunity to connect with parents and caregivers, particularly those new to the school, who often have questions. Thank you to Linda Hobbs for managing the second-hand uniform service, and to the OBHS office team for their ongoing support as a key point of contact for uniform sales and purchases throughout the year.

In fundraising news, thank you to everyone who supported our annual truffles fundraiser in December. We also acknowledge Murray Devereaux of Night ’n Day for generously donating most of the ingredients. Additionally, Narelle Jakeway and Linda Hobbs ran a successful Hot Cross Bun fundraiser in Term 1—our first time running this initiative. We have more fundraisers planned for 2026, so please keep a lookout for these in upcoming newsletters.

We greatly appreciate the support we receive for these fundraisers, as it enables us to provide grants that enhance the school experience for all our boys. So far this year, we have granted $300 to the Academic Prefect Team for snacks to encourage greater attendance at these study sessions, and we look forward to supporting further initiatives throughout the year.
