OBHS Whānau Report

By Matua Tipene | Posted: Monday March 30, 2026

Our recent whānau hui, the first for this year, was held last Friday afternoon.

We had a great turnout of mātua and kaumātua, tamariki nohinohi, and lots of pupils from both OBHS and OGHS. The kai was reka, and I want to say that everyone left feeling full—although the time ran away on me before I could get around to everyone to find out.

A huge mihi must go out to our OBHS staff who came in support. Whether it was for a long time or a short time, your presence (and help mucking in) was reassuring for both Brenna and me, so thank you all.

Whaea Jo, Matua Mac, Matua Neil, and Whaea Michelle were the leading stars who brought the ‘sparkle and light’ that was Wairua Pūhou. The beautiful voices of our kōtiro, enthusiastically assisted by the few boys who were present at the back, added magic to the whare.

We need more boys to join, so parents… activate! Please encourage and support Kapa Haka growth in our school. (No Xbox until kapaz practice is done, lad! Lol.)

A final mihi, deservedly, goes to Jaymie Leigh: “He tangata marae koe e hoa!” Setting up at the start and cleaning up till the end—tēnā koe!
