Amigo’s Southern Futsal Tournament

Otago Boys’ High School was proudly represented by two junior and two senior teams at the Amigos Southern Futsal Cup – a South Island qualifying tournament for the NZSS National Championships.

The senior teams had contrasting fortunes across the competition. The Senior Blues were outstanding during pool play, finishing as equal top qualifiers before losing the final to Hillmorton High School. The Senior Whites, made up of Year 11 students, were competitive throughout the tournament despite not registering a win, pushing strong sides including Bayfield, John McGlashan College, and our own Senior Blues. The experience will prove valuable for their future campaigns.

In the junior grade, the Junior Blues continued their strong form, finishing as joint top qualifiers alongside John McGlashan College Red before going on to win the Junior Boys title. The Junior Whites also produced some impressive performances, including a notable win over John McGlashan College Gold. Their tournament ended in the semi-finals, where they were defeated by the eventual champions, the OBHS Junior Blues.

A big thank you to Mr McGarry and Mr Brown for their time and commitment in managing the teams, and a special acknowledgement to student Oliver Colhoun for his contribution as a referee throughout the tournament.
