Alps 2 Ocean

The Year 12 Outdoor Education Alps to Ocean cycle trip was an unforgettable four days of riding through some of the most stunning scenery New Zealand has to offer, largely around the Mackenzie District.

Day one saw the boys ride the Lake Ōhau Track before continuing on to their accommodation in Twizel. On day two, a short drive set them up to ride an alternate route to Lake Tekapo and the hot pools, although, with such a stunning day, the cool plunge pool proved more popular than the heated ones.

Day three took the group through to Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park. Low cloud initially hid the mountains, but after a return walk on the Kea Point Track, it lifted to reveal an incredible alpine backdrop. This scenery stayed with them as they rode from the Lake Tekapo B Power Station back to Twizel. To cap off an amazing day, the boys thoroughly enjoyed the pump track, a fun contrast to the more benign trails they had been riding.

On the final day, the group rode from Aviemore Dam to Kurow, finishing with the welcome sight of a BBQ lunch. Throughout the trip, the boys were outstanding ambassadors for the school, receiving several complimentary comments along the way. Most importantly, they executed their plans well and delivered on their goal of an enjoyable and successful trail riding experience.
