Last week, OBHS athletes travelled to Auckland to represent Otago at the New Zealand Track and Field Championships.

There were some impressive performances against strong national competition.

Kalyan Bhusal competed in the Under 16 100m sprint, running an excellent preliminary race to place 4th with a time of 11.87 seconds in a very competitive field. In the final, challenging wind conditions made for a difficult race and Kalyan finished 7th equal with a time of 12.00 seconds.

In the Under 16 200m sprint, Kalyan narrowly missed a place in the final, finishing 9th with a time of 25.04 seconds.

One of the standout moments of the championships came in the Under 18 4 x 100m Relay, where the Otago team (including OBHS students Kalyan along with Riley and Connor Horne) secured a silver medal after a dramatic race that included the disqualification of the Canterbury team. The race was broadcast live on national television, and it was a proud moment to see the boys celebrating their achievement at the finish.

Congratulations to all involved in a fantastic effort on the national stage. We now look forward to the upcoming Otago Secondary School Championships this weekend.
