SISS Triathlon/Duathlon Champs

Despite tough conditions at the South Island Schools Triathlon/Duathlon on Sunday, our boys delivered some outstanding results.

Mason Kingan claimed the U19 Boys’ Duathlon title, while Fletcher Webster stormed to 2nd in the U14 Boys’ Triathlon, with Ethan Kaina close behind in 4th. Henry Hodgson placed 5th in the highly competitive U19 Boys’ event, Alex Jakeway finished 19th in the largest U14 division, and brothers Robert (10th) and Fergus Lloyd (13th) also put in strong performances. Our athletes competed impressively against strong opposition, particularly from the Christchurch schools. A huge congratulations to all seven of our boys who raced — days like this build real character. Thank you as well to the parents who braved the weather to support from the sidelines.

Next up is the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Triathlon Championships in Tauranga (Mount Maunganui) on 26–27 March. Henry Hodgson, Fletcher Webster, and Ethan Kaina will represent the school, also teaming up with Otago Girls’ students in the mixed relay events. We wish them all the very best.

It was a busy weekend for triathlon across New Zealand, with recent Old Boy Ruie Hyslop placing 11th at the National Age-Group Sprint Triathlon (16–19 Boys) in Napier, and many of our students and their siblings taking part in the Weet-Bix Triathlon here in Dunedin. It’s great to see our school community so strongly involved in the sport.
