Hostel Happenings

A warm welcome back to School House for your sons as we embrace another busy school year.

We are sad to farewell John Hedges and Leah Muir-Clarke, who have both moved on.

John and his wife Nicole have relocated to Clyde, and Leah has returned to her family in Wellington. We thank them both for their contributions while at School House and wish them all the best for their new adventures.

Year 9 boys are off to Mt Aspiring Camp, which has unfortunately been shortened due to the weather forecast. They left earlier today and will now be returning on the evening of Saturday, 7 February.

It will be a great opportunity to get to know each other amongst some stunning scenery and to experience a few outdoor challenges.

We congratulate the following boys on being chosen as Hostel Prefects for 2026:

Charlie Hore, Zach Hall – Legacy
Robbie Nichol, Henry Savage, Findlay Williamson – Academic
Toby McLean, Coen Breen – House
Dustin Young, Henry Chittock, Lachie Smith – Junior

Rowing: The South Island Club Champs saw some encouraging results. A special mention goes to our OBHS Under 17 Quad of Leo Garden, Ollie Scott, Tom Collie, Jude Smillie, and Hunter Ruxton, who brought home a silver medal. We acknowledge all our rowers as they train hard in the relentless build-up towards the Maadi Cup, which will be held in Twizel at Lake Ruataniwha from March 23–28.

This week is shorter, with Friday being Waitangi Day. We encourage all boarders to stay in the hostel for the weekend if possible. We will be joining with other Dunedin boarding schools for a fun day of combined sports.

Man of the Week: Ryan She
Ryan has made an encouraging start at School House with his impeccable manners and resilient attitude. Well done, Ryan – we know it is a huge adjustment for you coming all the way from China.
