Kī-o-Rahi Have-a-Go Day

Our Year 9 and 10 Te Reo Māori classes, along with a handful of girls from our sister school Otago Girls’ High School, spent today taking part in a Ki-o-Rahi Have-a-Go Day organised by the He Waka Kōtuia Trust.

They joined students from schools across Ōtepoti Dunedin for a fun day of learning and competing.

What is Ki-o-Rahi?
Ki-o-Rahi is a traditional Māori ball game based on the story of Rahi. It is played on a circular field, where two teams try to score points by touching markers, running into certain zones, or hitting a central target. The game is fast, exciting, and full of teamwork.

Our students played with great energy and showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. It was a great chance for them to be active, connect with others, and learn more about our Te Ao Māori culture through sport.

A big thank you to the He Waka Kōtuia Trust for organising such an enjoyable event.
