Our OBHS Badminton A Team has enjoyed an exceptional year.

Our OBHS Badminton A Team has had an outstanding year in 2025, showcasing skill and determination across multiple competitions:

  • Otago Inter-School Competition – Champions

  • South Island Secondary School Tournament – 2nd Place

  • New Zealand Secondary School Championships (Division 1) – 9th Place

 

Beyond school events, our talented team members — Joseph Chen, Jayden Lu, Jeremy Frei, Levi Lu, and Aaron Young — have also achieved remarkable success in their individual and club-level badminton pursuits throughout the year:

 

Joseph Chen

  • Represented Mainland in the NZ U19 Junior Teams Championships – 5th place finish

  • Represented Otago Gold in the South Island U19 Junior Teams Championships – Silver finish

  • 1st place – Southland U19 Open, Men’s Doubles (with Jayden Lu)

  • 1st place – Otago U19 Open, Men’s Doubles (with Jayden Lu)

  • 2nd place – Canterbury U19 Open, Men’s Doubles (with Jayden Lu)

Jayden Lu

  • Represented Mainland in the NZ U19 Junior Teams Championships – Silver finish

  • Represented Otago Gold in the South Island U19 Junior Teams Championships – Silver finish

  • 1st place – Southland U19 Open, Men’s Doubles (with Joseph Chen)

  • 1st place – Otago U19 Open, Men’s Doubles (with Joseph Chen)

  • 1st place – Otago U19 Open, Mixed Doubles

  • 2nd place – Canterbury U19 Open, Men’s Doubles (with Joseph Chen)

Jeremy Frei

  • Represented Mainland in the NZ U19 Junior Teams Championships – 5th place finish

  • Represented Otago Blue in the South Island U19 Junior Teams Championships – 5th place finish

  • 2nd place – Southland U19 Open, Men’s Doubles

  • 2nd place – Southland U19 Open, Mixed Doubles

  • 2nd place – Otago U19 Open, Men’s Doubles

  • 2nd place – Otago U19 Open, Men’s Singles

Levi Lu

  • Represented Mainland in the Regional U17 Derby – Gold finish

  • Represented Mainland in the NZ U17 (Div 1) Junior Teams Championships – Bronze finish

  • Represented Otago Gold in the South Island U17 Junior Teams Championships – Silver finish

  • 1st place – South Island U17 Individual Champs, Boys Doubles

  • 1st place – Otago U17 Open, Boys Doubles

  • 1st place – Otago U17 Open, Mixed Doubles

  • 1st place – Southland U17 Open, Boys Singles

  • 1st place – Southland U17 Open, Boys Doubles

  • 1st place – Southland U17 Open, Mixed Doubles

Aaron Young

Represented Otago Blue in the South Island U19 Junior Teams Championships – 5th place finish.
