A massive congratulations to Phoenix Haddow (Year 11) and Max Barker (Year 10) who recently took to the ice for the New Zealand Under-16 Ice Hockey Team at the Pan Pacific Ice Hockey World Championships in Melbourne, Australia!
The boys returned having played as true ambassadors for both their country and for OBHS, earning praise for being humble, respectful, and mature players throughout the demanding tournament.
Max Barker shared his experience:
"Our trip to Melbourne to represent New Zealand in ice hockey was an unforgettable experience. Traveling with our team filled us with pride and excitement as we wore the New Zealand jersey and stepped onto the ice against tough Australian and Hong Kong Teams. The atmosphere in the rink was intense, but it pushed us to play our best and support each other. Competing at that level showed me how much teamwork and dedication matter, and it made me even more determined to keep improving and represent our country."
The team put in their best effort and finished fourth. The opportunity to compete at an international level is an incredible achievement. The trip wasn't all hard work, though, with the boys exploring Melbourne, trying new food, and enjoying the city's energy between games.
We are incredibly proud of Phoenix and Max for their dedication and sportsmanship.
