More Outstanding Success: CAA Corequisite Assessments

By Richard Harvey | Posted: Thursday October 23, 2025

We are happy to share the fantastic results from the latest Common Assessment Activity (CAA) corequisite assessments, which took place in September.

Once again, our students have achieved pass rates significantly above national averages in all three areas: Reading, Writing, and Numeracy.

These results are a clear testament to the commitment of our students, the supportive environment provided by their families and caregivers, and the quality teaching delivered by our staff.

Our students achieved exceptional results, with Writing pass rates between 87% and 90%, well above the National Boys’ average of 62%. The focus on strengthening literacy skills across our junior school over the past two years is clearly producing strong outcomes. Numeracy results have also continued to improve, with 85–88% of students achieving a pass. This represents 130 Year 10 students and 147 Year 11 students who have successfully met the standard.

What's Next for Students?

Achieving these corequisite assessments is a big step to ticking off the literacy and numeracy requirement for gaining any NCEA qualification (Level 1, 2, or 3).

For students who have passed: Congratulations! You have met the foundational Literacy and Numeracy requirement for NCEA, a huge step toward your future qualification.

For students who have not yet passed: Please know that feedback on the latest assessments is now available for download through the NZQA portal. We strongly encourage students to log in and review this information carefully. The Ministry and Education has also provide resources and we recommend these are reviewed by caregivers with their sons to discuss next steps and these are found attached to the post.

The Pathway to NCEA: A Reminder

Students currently have two ways to meet their NCEA literacy and numeracy requirements:

  1. Common Assessment Activities (CAAs): The digital assessments in Reading, Writing, and Numeracy referenced above.

  2. Approved Achievement Standards: Achieving specific, approved achievement standards across various NCEA subjects.

Congratulations once again to all our students for their truly outstanding performance in this round! We are incredibly proud of your achievements.
