The results are in for the challenging NZ Engineering Science Competition, run by the Department of Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering at Auckland University.
This year's competition featured 268 teams from 79 schools across New Zealand. We had four teams from OBHS (Years 12 and 13) enter the fray, all of whom engaged with the complex, real-world scenario: "If NZ built gravity batteries near wind farms, how much energy could be stored during a period of strong wind?"
We are extremely proud of the exceptional effort and result achieved by the team of Max Cutfield, Aaron Young, and Will Ding, who were awarded Highly Commended. This stellar finish places them in the top 12 teams overall—a remarkable feat given the high level of competition.
Congratulations to all our participating students. The future of NZ Engineering is looking bright!
