Hostel Update - Term 4, Week 1

By OBHS Hostel | Posted: Thursday October 9, 2025

Recharged boys have refilled the hostel, helping to create a happy, busy vibe.

Welcome back to School House for the final term! Anticipation is building as we prepare for exams and the annual stretch of end-of-year activities.

We are excited to be hosting a Grandparents’ Afternoon Tea this Sunday, 12 October, between 2–4pm in the School House dining room.

Please join us for a relaxed catch-up as we acknowledge the intergenerational connections that help build the heritage of the hostel.

On Wednesday evening, the boys enjoyed House Competition Touch at Roberts Park. It was great to see such a high level of enjoyment and healthy rivalry, with the sunshine helping to keep everyone enthused.

This Friday evening, many of the boys will be supporting Otago Rugby in their quarter-final battle against Waikato at 7.10pm at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Huge congratulations to Pax Kollar and Aidan Taylor on their selection for the U18 New Zealand Ice Hockey High Performance Squad. Well done, boys — we are proud of you!

On Monday evening, Claudia Christie, a second-year Otago University student, will be joining us for tea. Claudia aims to raise awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated against meningitis — a potentially deadly disease.
She will share her own experience of contracting meningitis and will be available for an informal question-and-answer session following her talk.
Claudia will also visit the other Dunedin boarding schools to deliver a formal presentation and slideshow early in 2026.

Please remind your sons that if they are having any issues, they just need to reach out and ask for help. James Howey is an experienced counsellor who visits the hostel weekly and is available for confidential sessions by arrangement.

Voting has begun for next year’s Hostel Prefects, and we are thrilled to see so many quality candidates putting themselves forward for these positions.
