What a fantastic result for Otago Rugby League!
The Otago Under 14 team travelled to Oamaru on October 3rd and 4th to compete in the South Island Competition, and they certainly did our region proud, finishing in 2nd place overall.
The team had an outstanding run, winning three games in a row against Aoraki, West Coast, and Southland. They met their match in the final, losing a hard-fought contest to a very strong Canterbury side, but a 2nd place finish in the South Island is an excellent achievement.
The Otago team featured a strong contingent of players from Otago Boys' High School:
Junior Smith
Lennix Hill
George Dowling
Will Calvert
Siosefo Tupou
Max Sidon
Eli Olsen
Cyrus Mokomoko
Taniela Talalima-Wineti
Congratulations to the coaching staff, Scott Sidon, and Year 10 student and Assistant Coach Sam Glover, who were named Coaches of the Tournament.
A special thank you to Sam for his efforts as Assistant Coach. Sam was an "absolute gem with the boys," offering invaluable support and proving himself to be a natural leader and mentor.
The talent of our students was recognised with four players being selected for the South Island U14 Team. This is a tremendous honour and reflects their dedication and skill on the field.
Congratulations to:
Max Sidon
Junior Smith
Taniela Talalima-Wineti
Siosefo Tupou
Well done to the entire Otago U14 team on a successful tournament.
