OBHS Pasifika has come alive this year, with our boys coming together to deliver a spectacular performance bracket at the recent Otago Polyfest 2025.
The bracket proudly highlighted the diversity of cultures represented within our group – Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Niue.
A total of 48 boys worked tirelessly over two months, learning songs, mastering choreography, and connecting with community elders who generously shared their knowledge. This year, OBHS stood out at Polyfest – and the overwhelming compliments and support we received reflected that.
In a new direction, the boys dressed in attire representing their own cultures. While keeping to the school colours, the Polyfest stage came alive with a sea of vibrant traditional wear, celebrating both unity and individuality.
In August, our major fundraiser, “Fiafia Night,” drew a packed auditorium. Families, communities, and other schools came together to perform, while the flavours of Pacific food added to the celebration. The event covered essential costs such as uniforms and meals during weekend practices and performances.
The Pasifika boys and their communities are truly grateful to OBHS for providing a space where they can celebrate their identities with pride. We especially acknowledge our Pasifika Dean, Mr Kent Twaites, whose leadership and unwavering support have enabled the OBHS Pasifika Vaka to sail strong.
Finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our communities, who gave so generously of their time, talents, and creativity in preparing the cultural attire that helped bring each performance to life. Together, we have shown what it means to be proud, united, and Pasifika.
