During tournament week, our U15 Blues rugby team was fortunate enough to participate in the National U15 Rugby Invitational Tournament, which was held in Auckland and hosted by Wesley College.
Throughout the week, we faced a variety of challenges that allowed us to reflect on our game and improve each day. It was an amazing experience, as we played against some of the best rugby schools in New Zealand.
Over the course of the week, we played six games. We were beaten by a strong Christchurch Boys’ side and narrowly lost to Rotorua Boys’ by 5 points. We then beat Wellington College, Wesley College, and New Plymouth Boys’, before losing to Palmerston North Boys’.
As well as playing rugby, we also took part in other activities. One of these was visiting the Auckland Sky Tower, which was incredible – who knew some of the big rugby players were afraid of heights! We also played mini golf, which was great fun.
The overall tournament was a fantastic experience, but what I loved the most was seeing all the pink hats on the sideline, cheering us on. During our team talks, it was always important to recognise those who had travelled so far just to watch us play rugby.
Our team would like to acknowledge the huge effort from everyone involved in fundraising, along with our coaches and support staff. I am proud of our team and proud to represent Otago Boys’ High School.
