It has been a big, energetic, and slightly chaotic week at the hostel!
Basketball House Competition
Last week we had our basketball house competition — and what a battle it was! The junior games were full of pace and hustle, with Nicholson taking the win. They came out firing, and their teamwork really stood out.
In the senior division, Hawthorne stepped up big time and walked away with the title. Atu, Tui, and Leah even got involved — but we can confidently say they were definitely not diving for loose balls or sprinting back on defence!
Basketball has definitely been one of the highlights this year.
Dodgeball House Competition
We rolled straight into dodgeball this week, and once again, Hawthorne came out on top! The games were fast, loud, and full of drama — in the best way possible.
Thankfully, there were no broken bones or black eyes to report. There were plenty of close calls, such as George Dowling getting hit in the legs while jumping, resulting in him falling straight onto his behind.
Other than those close calls, the boys had a great time and even better laughs. Well done, teams!
Corequisite Study
Our corequisite study session with John has been running very smoothly. The boys are switched on, asking questions, and making the most of the extra support.
It has been great to see the momentum building — everyone’s focused, helping each other out, and really knuckling down.
With exams not far away, it is a massive advantage, especially for our seniors. Keep up the good work, lads!
Weekend Housemaster
We are looking for a new addition to join our lovely hostel team on the weekends!
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people and providing guidance, supervision, and support in a structured yet nurturing environment.
As a key presence over the weekend, you’ll help ensure the wellbeing, safety, and positive experience of our boarders.
If that sounds like something you — or someone you know — would be interested in, please contact John at [email protected].
Man of the Week – Will Nichol
This week’s Man of the Week is none other than Will Nichol.
Will has recently been selected for the New Zealand U18 Hockey team — an incredible achievement.
Will is one of those boys who just gets on with things. He’s humble, hardworking, and always gives 100% — whether it’s in the classroom, on the turf, or around the hostel.
He’s the kind of person who leads by example, and we couldn’t be prouder.
Congratulations, Will!
