This week, OBHS hosted two Otaki Scholars for four nights.
These scholarships are awarded to pupils from Robert Gordon's College in recognition of their character, leadership, and athletic achievements. The New Zealand Government provides transport and accommodation for the Otaki Shield winners, enabling them to undertake a comprehensive tour of the country.
While in Dunedin, Harry and Michael were kindly hosted by Jennifer and John Crump, parents of Benjamin Crump (Year 13), and Andrea and James Ussher, parents of Jack Ussher (Year 13). We're incredibly grateful for their generosity and support throughout the boys' visit. Both Harry and Michael actively participated in school activities and explored the sights of Dunedin during their stay.
As John Crump succinctly put it, "Benjamin’s late grandfather, Paul Crump, hosted an Otaki Scholar (Alexander Morrice) when he was Head Boy of Marlborough Boys' College in 1959, so it was nice to be part of the connection a couple of generations on." This highlights the significant, long-standing impact of these exchanges.
The Crumps and the Usshers also shared a dinner on the scholars' last night in Dunedin.
