Welcome back to Term 3.
It’s funny how the holidays seem to evaporate into a faded recollection once we are back into the full swing of hostel life, school, and sporting activities.
Our focus this term is on Perseverance, which ties in with the current School Badge.
Extra Help is Available...
If your boys need any extra help during prep time, all they have to do is ask Susan, Leah, Caitlin, or John, who are all happy to assist. We are currently helping Year 13s with university and scholarship applications. We are also running Year 10 maths extension classes and junior reading and literacy activities, which are voluntary. Please have a chat with your sons and explain that we cannot chase after all 146 of them individually, but we are more than happy to assist if they ask.
Thanks to Charlie Wang, Gunha Park, and Sam Asher for helping our Year 10 Algebra class this week. Much appreciated — it’s great to see seniors giving back in this way.
NZ Hockey Update
NZ Hockey has named U18 North and South Men’s teams for the U18 Queensland Series, being held from December 15th to 20th at King's College in Auckland.
This is a brilliant opportunity for Coen Breen, Will Nichol, and Lachie Smith to extend their skills in a competitive environment. Huge congratulations from all of us at the hostel on making the South Squad. We are stoked for you boys!
Hires
Thanks to the hostel staff who were busy cleaning and hosting multiple teams over the holidays. We had junior soccer and hockey teams staying with us, and they thoroughly enjoyed their stay.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Te-Ava-A-Katu, Nicholas Tamati Taylor, and Izaah Iosefo for their selection into the U18 Otago Rugby League team and for successfully winning the tournament during the holidays. Well done also to Jahziel Lafita-Kadavaki, who was selected for Otago U16. Great stuff, guys!
The hostels equivalent to KFC proved popular.
Southern Chicken, loaded mac and cheese and Donna’s secret crumb topping
were a huge hit this week.
