Reading Challenge Off to a Flying Start

By Kate Hope | Posted: Thursday June 26, 2025

The Reading Challenge, recently launched through the school library, is already gaining momentum, with over 75 completed bookmarks handed in so far!

Our boys have jumped into the competition with enthusiasm and determination.

Leading the pack at this early stage is McIndoe House, with several keen readers clocking up points. Aspinall House isn’t far behind, showing strength in depth with a wider range of participants contributing. It's fantastic to see so many boys stepping outside their comfort zones and embracing new books and genres.

How it works:
Students read a book of their choice, then complete a short house bookmark and discuss the book with our student librarians. Once satisfied that the book has been read, the librarians award the student a house point and a small chocolate reward. Twice a term, there will also be alucky house drawwith the chance to win a canteen voucherfor every house.

Looking ahead:
Next term will bring even more opportunities, with bonus house points up for grabs for those who really challenge themselves with their reading choices—so stay tuned!

How you can support at home:
Encourage your son to take part in the challenge by setting aside time for reading at home. If he's feeling stuck or unsure what to read, our school librarian, Mrs. Kinghorn, is always on hand to help students find the right book.

Let’s keep the momentum going and support our boys in making reading a lifelong habit!
