On Sunday, 15 July, seven of our boys participated in the Otago Secondary School swimming championships at Moana pool.
In the 14 & Under category, Declan Roulston bounced back from illness to claim 1st in 50 back and free and 2nd place in 50 fly. Fletcher McCall dominated the longer distances, winning both the 200m and 400m free, while also earning 3rd in 100 free and 100 IM. Ropati Kohlhase tackled six races, impressively placing 4th–6th across his events, a solid effort as one of the younger competitors.
In the 15 & Over group, Toby Hill showed grit with top-10 finishes in all four freestyle events, just missing the podium in the 400 free. Henry Hodgson smashed his PB in the 400 free by 27 seconds and cracked 30 seconds in the 50 free, clocking 29.53, alongside strong efforts in the 200 IM and 200 free. Neo Salomonsson entered seven events, placing 1st in all, and set new Otago Secondary School records in the 50m and 100m fly, breaking old boy Daniel Gilbert's 100 fly record. Taka Sugiyama finished his final champs in style, sweeping all three breaststroke titles and taking 2nd in the 200 IM.
Despite scratching the A relay due to injury and illness, the OBHS B team of Toby, Henry, Ropati, and Fletcher swam strongly to secure 3rd place in the freestyle relay.
Out of the pool, the boys conducted themselves with great respect and maturity, proudly representing Otago Boys’ High School. Their teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitude reflected the strong values and spirit that make OBHS such a great place to learn and grow.
