Taka attended the NZ Championships in Auckland last week, competing in the 17-18 year-old age group.
He swam in five events over the five days. The competition was strong, and over the week, Taka swam consistently, producing some strong performances in the long course meet, achieving three personal best times, reaching one final, and narrowly missing three other finals by one place.
Results:
400 Individual Medley – 10th, up one place from his entry of 11th (4.67 sec PB)
50 Breaststroke – 14th, up two places from his entry of 16th
200 Breaststroke – 14th (1.31 sec PB)
100 Breaststroke – 15th (1.08 sec PB)
200 Individual Medley – 17th
Taka is looking forward to his next meet, the New Zealand Secondary Champs, where he will represent Otago Boys' High School. These championships will be held in Hamilton in July.
