This week, Prefect Luis Deaker spoke at assembly about the importance of reading.
Here is what he had to say:
"Hey boys, I’m going to briefly talk to you about reading. One book I absolutely love is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It’s a really good book, full of action and interesting concepts. It’s a survival story about standing up for what’s right, even when you're against the odds.
This is the most recent book I’ve been enjoying; however, every day, I try to make time to read, even when I’ve been busy or not really in the mood. Reading helps me switch off, relax, and learn new things. Honestly, there are a lot of nights when I don't particularly feel like reading, but if I push myself to start and get into the story, I always enjoy it.
To help me get past that "I don’t want to read" feeling, I set small goals, like reading just one chapter, reading for 15 minutes, or picking up a fast-paced book like The Hunger Games that hooks me quickly.
There’s also a library house competition coming soon, where you boys will be able to earn house points and prizes for each book you read. It’s all run by the librarians, so keep an ear out in the next assemblies for more information. Every book you read is an opportunity to learn and enjoy.
In the coming weeks, keep an eye out for the school-wide reading initiative run by our librarians. There are prizes up for grabs!"
