Intercollegiate Clay Target 2025

By Jacqueline Irving | Posted: Thursday May 15, 2025

Our 2025 squad of Clay Target Shooters is a mix of familiar and new faces.

Jackson Stevens has been named Captain, and Dustin Young is our Deputy and the current acting Captain while Jackson recovers from injury. Ben Roy returns to shooting this year. Lucas Bresnell and Konrad Todd are new additions to our squad.

Mr. Bill McKinley and Old Boy Henry Sim are coaching our students on Wednesday afternoons this year. At our first training session, Old Boy Nic Sim (Henry's younger brother and a former Sports Captain) also attended. We are trialling new training drills and routines to lift scores and make the most of the limited daylight available after school on Wednesdays.

2025 Squad

Year 13 – Jackson Stevens, Ben Roy
Year 12 – Dustin Young, Charlie Hore, Leo Burgess, Zach Hall, Lucas Brenssnell
Year 11 – Tom Collie, Jack Scurr
Year 10 – James Gare, Al Nicholson
Year 9 – Konrad Todd

Southland Intercollegiate Shoot

Last Sunday marked our first Intercollegiate Competition of the season, hosted by the Southland Clay Target Club. This venue holds added significance this year, as it will also host the South Island Secondary Schools Championships on June 28. The interschool event hosted by Southland Boys' High School on June 11 will give our shooters further familiarity with the layout, traps, and sightlines.

Dustin Young, Charlie Hore, Ben Roy, and Year 9 student Konrad Todd competed against 10 squads from Otago and Southland schools.

Dustin and Konrad partnered in the Skeet event. Ben, returning to competition for the first time since Year 10, also participated.

Results

Konrad Todd won:

  • First in Individual Junior Skeet

  • Highest Overall Points Score (Junior)

  • Junior High Gun

These are outstanding results for Konrad, especially in his first Intercollegiate Competition. He showed great composure in the shoot-offs at the end of the day.

Further Events

This term, we have interschool competitions with Timaru Boys' High School, Southland Boys' High School, and Christchurch Boys' High School.

Our next Intercollegiate shoot will take place in Dunedin on Sunday, 8th June, at our home training venue, the Dunedin Clay Target Club. We warmly invite you to come along, show your support, and see the boys in action. Skeet begins at 9:00 a.m., and DTL starts at 10:00 a.m.
