Cross-Country Season Underway

On Tuesday this week the cross-country season started with the Logan Park Road Race.

OBHS had a larger team than in recent years with 5 runners in the Junior field and 7 runners in the Senior race.

In both races we had strong favourites in the form of Ruie Hyslop and William Bolter. They did not disappoint winning both comfortably, William finishing in 8:06 for his 2.3km and Ruie coming home in 15:26 for his 4.6km, beating his nearest competition by over 1 minute 30 seconds.

In their first race for OBHS, all the Year 9s did really well against a mixture of Year 9 and 10s in the cold windy conditions. Mason Bond came in 5th, Connor Horne 7th, Tamati Matthews in 15th and Jonty Langley in 16th all completing the loop in under 10 minutes which is a very respectable pace.

In the senior race we had 4 Year 11s competing in the longer race for the first time and it was a very tough run for some. Henry Hodgson continued to improve as did Sam Hobbs coming in 5th and 13th respectively. Cormac De La Harpe ran his second cross country race finishing in 8th. Toby Ollerenshaw came in 15th in just under 19 minutes, still a very respectable run for a first attempt at a longer distance. Robert Lloyd and Riley Horne also ran but both had very difficult races for different reasons.
