Hostel Update

By OBHS Hostel | Posted: Wednesday April 30, 2025

Welcome back to Term Two.

A big thanks to John Latta for all the chainsaw work outside Campbell and Thompson which was done during the holidays. Years of growth have now been cut back allowing some sun into the boys' dorms. A most welcome improvement.

Hostel Working Bee:

Next stage is a working bee on King's birthday weekend: Monday 2nd June from 9am. We would like 15-20 helpers to work chainsaws, chippers, splitters and wheelbarrows please. If you can help out with labour or equipment, please email Susan.

Thank you to the parents who have already donated native plants. We welcome your contributions and appreciate your generosity towards our garden redevelopment.

Public Holidays:

Hostel will be open for the King's Birthday weekend, but closed for Matariki.

We will be closed Thursday, 19th June (Teachers Only Day) Friday, 20th (Matariki) and Saturday. We will be open from 2pm Sunday.

Congratulations to:

Mason Hansen - Silver in Duke of Edinburgh

Cam Brown - Bronze in Duke of Edinburgh

This term is a shorter one with just 9 weeks to juggle academic and winter sports challenges. Prep is underway and we strongly encourage all boys to knuckle down and chase every credit available to them. Please encourage your sons to ask for help during prep if and when required. We have trained teachers and staff available to assist.

Congratulations to Donna and her kitchen team for the newly designed bakery area which improves functionality.

Man of the week:

Max Turnbull for using his initiative around the hostel, having wonderful manners and always an impressive attitude. Keep it up Max.
