3x3 Basketball South Island Tournament 28-29 March

On the 28th and 29th March, Basketball Otago hosted the South Island (Zone 4) Regional 3x3 Basketball Tournament. Otago Boys’ entered two teams, A and B. The boys from both teams played exceptionally well as a unit and the results reflect that. The Senior A boys had the goal of winning the tournament with a familiar team from last year. However, on the day the Senior A boys finished third winning a tight 12-11 game against St Andrews College. The Senior B boys played well and grew as players over the entire tournament. They improved every game and proved themselves not just as a team but as players and finished 8th, beating a number of schools ‘A Teams’ over the Tournament. Great results from the boys.

Senior A Pre-Season Tournament in Christchurch 5th-7th April

Last week our Senior A boys, coached by Levi Kaan, travelled to Christchurch for a pre-season tournament against some of the toughest basketball schools in Christchurch. The team went up there with the goal to find their identity and see what needs to improve throughout the season. Also, it was a good opportunity for our younger players to prove themselves as many older and more experienced players were unavailable for this Tournament. The first game against Hillmorton left us with plenty of things to improve on as the boys went down to a very strong side. Saturday morning we played against another well-drilled side, Shirely Boys’. The team fought hard and played much better but unfortunately ended the game coming up just short again. However, the team turned things around having two convincing wins against Timaru Boys’ on Saturday night, and Middleton Grange on Sunday morning. Overall, the pre-season tournament left the team with areas to improve on and learn from, with big things to come for this group ahead into the winter sports season.
