This term, our junior Kī-o-Rahi team has represented Otago Boys' High School, Te Kura Tuarua o Kā Tama Toa o Ōtakou, with pride, skill, and great sportsmanship.
Competing against a range of schools—including King’s High School, John McGlashan College, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ōtepoti, and even Tahuna Normal Intermediate among others. The boys consistently demonstrated their growing understanding and passion for this dynamic, fast-paced Māori game.
The team have shown strong teamwork and excellent on-field communication, with every game offering a new chance to showcase their talents and build connections with other kura. Their positive attitude and respect for the kaupapa of Kī-o-Rahi have stood out just as much as their competitive spirit.
A season highlight came at the finals last week, where the boys fought hard to earn second place overall. In a commanding semi-final performance, they confidently defeated John McGlashan College. The final saw them take an early lead against King’s High School, setting the pace in the first quarter. While the lead eventually slipped away, the boys walked off the field with heads held high.
Ka mau te wehi, e tama mā! You’ve done yourselves and your kura proud.
