There are so many wonderful sporting achievements to acknowledge this week.
Congratulations to all of the boys who attended the Maadi Cup last week. We were so proud to watch so many of you compete in A-finals! A special mention to our Under-16 coxed Quad who carved up their final to bring home a gold medal. Huge kudos go to Leo Garden, Ollie Scott, Tom Collie, Logan Millar and Hunter Ruxton. After all those early starts and hard work, we are stoked for each of you.
We have had another impressive result for Declan Roulston who won gold at Division 2 and is competing at the National Swimming Competitions in the holidays. We wish you well Declan and admire your self-discipline and dedication.
We are also proud of Gunha Park and his Volleyball team who won gold at their Division 3 National Tournament. Well done boys. Keep jumping high and reaching for the sky.
Further congratulations go to Mason Hansen and Ollie McCall for their Outstanding contribution to Southland Country Cricket.
And a huge shout out to Ashton Hansen who was selected for Otago Under-19 and Southland Under-19. Ashton has been chosen as the Secondary Schools cricketer of the year.
Although not in the same league yet, after some fierce competition and a lot of noise, Thompson won the hostel Juniors pit cricket this term. We are looking forward to the Senior competition next week.
On Wednesday evening we enjoyed our termly formal dinner. Thank you to Donna and her kitchen staff for another delicious feast and to everyone who helped transform the dining room into a fancy restaurant for the event.
We welcomed Michael Ruske along as a guest speaker. Michael is part of the Otago Nuggets team. He is a full-time student at the University of Otago and most importantly an Otago Boys’ Old Boy. The boys enjoyed his presentation and were able to ask questions following.
We also took the opportunity to recognise some of our boys who have stood out this term. Two awards were given to each year group: Academic Award (highest average effort grade from term 1) and Good Bugger Award.

The hostel is continuing to maintain its very busy vibe. With winter sports trials and practices now underway, and some extra end of term pressure setting in, many boys are battling fatigue. Thank you to all parents who have returned the forms for their sons to have flu vaccinations. If you have not already done so, please return asap so these can be administered soon.
A call out to any hostel parents who may have access to tussocks or some native plants. If you have plants that you'd like to donate to our hostel garden, we would greatly welcome your contributions. Donations can be brought along when you return your sons to the hostel prior to the start of Term 2 on Sunday, April 28th. They can be stored outside the Prep room against the wall facing Nicholson. Please make sure each plant is in a suitable plastic bag or container with their roots bedded into some soil or potting mix so they can survive before they are planted.
It is our aim to keep the Hostel looking as presentable as possible. Your help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Any questions please contact Susan Landels.
