Monday marked the first run out of the season for our senior players as they faced off against the Grandview Rugby Club from Canada in an international fixture.

It was an exciting experience for our boys, many of whom had their first opportunity to showcase their skills against international opposition. The incredible atmosphere, combined with the pre-match haka, joined by boys from a range of OBHS sides, set the stage for an unforgettable game.

Grandview came out strong in the opening quarter, applying pressure with powerful ball carrying and solid defence. Despite holding a significant portion of territory, they only conceded a single try in the first half.

The second half saw things open up for Otago Boys’, with quick breaks by halfbacks Tupou Alesana and Jeff Taylor extending the lead. Grandview attempted a second-half comeback, but the game was sealed at 31-7 by halfback Gou Nakagawa who scored under the posts following an interception.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise this match. It was an incredible opportunity for our boys, and we’re sure it will be a memory they’ll cherish.

Special thanks also to all the supporters who created such an amazing atmosphere, Logan Rowland and John Latta for putting on the kai for the boys, the families for chipping in and helping on the day.

To Grandview, we wish you the best of luck on the remainder of your tour. We hope it was a rewarding experience for your team as well.
