This week has seen a mixture of temperatures and weather conditions that have kept us all guessing, and been a curse for all the keen cricketers by causing greasy pitches and game delays.
Country Visits were midweek, so John Hedges and Richard Hall have both been busy in rural areas showcasing the benefits of coming to the hostel. The selection process for next year’s Year 9 cohort is well underway.
The boys enjoyed their outing last Friday night to the Stadium supporting the Highlanders through a narrow loss to the Hurricanes. Another enthusiastic group of hostel boys will attend the game this Saturday afternoon, when the Highlanders play against the Reds at 4:30pm.
Shout out to Tamati Taylor who, with outstanding speed and determination, sprinted his way to winning a $500 KFC voucher which has since been duly demolished.
This Wednesday evening, we welcomed a speaker from Lincoln University, Laura Samuela. Laura informed our Year 12 and 13 boys of what is on offer at Lincoln and highlighted some key aspects. Thank you, Laura, for your informative chat.
Good luck to the rowing boys who have left for the Maadi Cup at Lake Karapiro in Cambridge, running from March 22 to March 29th. Again, we hope all your hard work leading up to this grand event brings just rewards. “The team that’s most together, wins.”
All the best as well to boys attending the South Island Secondary School Touch Championship in Christchurch from March 22 to March 23rd.
Parents, please supply your son with his own winter health kit. We suggest some Strepsils or a throat lozenge of his choice, some Vitamin C tablets or multivitamins, a box of tissues, and some nasal spray. Some bed socks and a wheat bag are also a great idea for extra warmth on all those cold wintery nights. If you have any spare polar fleece blankets or woolly underblankets, these items are helpful additions too. Thank you.
NOTICE FOR OBHS RAFFLE FUNDRAISER
With Otago Anniversary weekend upon us it’s an excellent opportunity for your son if he is returning home, to get out and sell the OBHS Raffle card he has been issued.
We would greatly appreciate your support in this important school fundraiser. If you would prefer you can also deposit the funds directly into the school’s bank account. The details are as follows:
Bank: ANZ
Account number: 06-0901-0391539-00
Once he returns to school on Tuesday, your son can drop the completed raffle card at the main school office. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Hostel Blankets are proving very popular. We can now offer these to existing boys at a cost of $80. The blankets will have the OBHS Logo, your son's name and the year they arrived at the hostel. Your son is to ask you first before placing an order with us.
