The South Island Secondary Schools' Triathlon/Duathlon Championships took place in Oamaru, over the weekend, with some outstanding performances from our students.

Ruie Hyslop secured 2nd place in the Senior Boys Triathlon, while Leo Garden took 2nd in the Intermediate Boys Duathlon, both showing impressive skill and determination.

The performance of the day though came from Property Manager, Russ Pope, who clinched 1st place in the Open Mens Duathlon, mixing it with the young guns.

Henry Hodgson, despite battling a lack of sleep, finished a commendable 6th in the competitive U16 Boys Triathlon. Other strong performances came from brothers Robert and Fergus Lloyd, who continue to gain valuable racing experience.

As temperatures climbed throughout the day, the races became increasingly intense, with schools from Invercargill to Christchurch contributing to some tough competition.

Looking ahead, the local Otago Tri Club Champs and the Secondary Schools’ Nationals, in Wanaka, later this month are the next big events. A big thank you to the parents who came out to support their sons — your presence was greatly appreciated.
