Triathlon success for Ruie Hyslop and Henry Hodgson

Ruie Hyslop and Henry Hodgson recently competed in the Napier Triathlon Festival, which included the Tri NZ Suzuki Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships.

This high-level event also served as a qualifier for the Age-Group World Championships, set to take place in Wollongong, Australia, later this year.

Ruie had the added advantage of spending the preceding week at a Tri NZ development camp in Napier, where he trained alongside some of the country’s top young triathletes and gained valuable feedback. The Samoan national development team was also in attendance, adding to the competitive atmosphere.

On race day, Ruie delivered a strong performance, finishing 14th in the 16-19 age category and securing his spot at the Age-Group World Championships in October. Henry also had an impressive race, finishing 6th in his event, although it was not a qualifying race.

A special mention goes to Tim Hodgson (Henry’s dad), who, fresh off competing in Challenge Wanaka the previous weekend, put in a fantastic effort to place 4th in his age category.

Both Ruie and Henry will be back in action this weekend at the South Island Secondary Schools’ Triathlon Championships in Oamaru. Best of luck to them both!
