Hostel update

By OBHS Hostel | Posted: Thursday February 20, 2025

It’s hard to believe it's week 4 already but, as they say, time flies when you're having fun.

We have had some recurring sick boys and continue to encourage good hygiene habits to cope with the challenges of communal living. With sore throats prevalent, we have exhausted the hostel supply of Strepsils. If you would like your son to have access to throat lozenges, can you please supply these at your discretion.

Please be aware we will be introducing a new approval process for unsupervised activities such as mountain bike riding, fishing and swimming, where you can pre-approve these activities for the year. Please check your emails in the coming week for details about this process.

We are excited to introduce our new Public Health Nurse, Sarah Hadler who will be available for free, confidential sessions in the school counsellor’s office on Tuesday at lunchtimes. Sarah covers general health issues, sexual health, relationship and diversity support and mental health support and referrals.

We are very fortunate to have James Howey who is the Otago Boys' High School counsellor coming in to introduce himself at the hostel this week. Following this visit he will be available on Thursday and Sunday evenings for chats as required and by arrangement.

MAN OF THE WEEK

Jack Scurr is our Man of the Week. Jack has been stepping up and taking ownership of his learning this year. He’s engaging in prep time and asking for help to learn more. Great to see and a perfect way to start the year. Nice Jack, keep up the good work.

A NOTE FROM MATRON

If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.

Making your bed in the morning is a reminder that if you do the little things right,

It makes the big things possible.
