A message from the Rector

The first month of school has flown by.

Week 4 has finished in sunshine and the school is in good heart. Academically our programmes are well underway. A number of senior courses have begun NCEA assessments, and our juniors are well into their academic routines. For the boys, the connection to who they are and why they are here has been established.

For parents too, we provide that connection. As a school we have had several opportunities for parents and caregivers to engage with staff. To date these have included our academic coaching, the Pasifika Fono, the Parent Teacher Association meeting and the Year 9 Meet the Teacher event. Shortly in early March there will be the first Māori Parent Hui. I hope that you have made the effort - and I acknowledge that sometimes it is an effort - to come and support your son and his school.

In assemblies we have celebrated the academic successes of our 2024 cohort. We have recognised our new 2025 Prefect team, and we have already started interviewing prospective Hostel boys for 2026. On the sidelines at volleyball, touch, and cricket you will have seen both parents and staff being engaged with boys, providing another fantastic opportunity for connection.

Our OBHS Foundation will host their first event on Monday, connecting a group of Old Boys to the school.

So, the connections with the community that we value so much are well underway. Each parent has the opportunity to be connected to their son's learning, to his cultural and sporting opportunities, and to giving back. I am personally grateful to all that do, and I encourage those who are new to the school to make the effort to participate in one of the many ways in which we reach out.

I look forward to your continued engagement.
