It was a stellar weekend for our surf lifesavers at the South Island Surf Lifesaving Championships held at New Brighton Beach in Christchurch, with some outstanding performances from our talented athletes.
Year 11 student Toby Hill continued his reign of dominance, securing a 3-peat victory by taking out the Top Overall Boys Age Group category for the third year in a row! Toby, who excels in water events, also claimed the same title in both the Canterbury and Otago Championships, showcasing his impressive skill set. As a proud member of the St Clair Surf Lifesaving Club, Toby views his success as a win-win situation, enjoying not only the thrill of competition but also the opportunity to give back to the community through his work patrolling our local beaches.
Year 12 students Max McCaul and Lochie Ing-aram also had reason to celebrate. Earning a 2nd place finish in the Under 17 and Under 19 Relays, and 3rd place in the Open section.
Max’s credible performance at the South Island Championships followed his outstanding results at the Canterbury Championships, where he claimed the Top Overall title in the U17 division. Meanwhile, Lochie’s hard work paid off with a commendable 4th place in both the U17 and U19 Individual Sprints.
Congratulations to Toby, Max, Lochie, and all our talented surf lifesavers for their impressive results. Their dedication to both their sport and our community is truly impressive.
