Despite not winning on Athletics Day, McIndoe House did have the highest number of participation points, which shows that the house spirit is alive and well. This was duly recognised at the McIndoe House Assembly today.
The McIndoe House Phoenix Award is given to boys who stand out in any of the following areas:
Commitment and Honour to McIndoe House or the OBHS Brotherhood.
Outstanding service in the school or wider community.
An outstanding achievement or performance which brings us honour.
Why the Phoenix? Our house is named after Sir Archibald McIndoe who, after fighting in WWII became a renowned plastic surgeon and who, post-war concentrated mainly on rehabilitating soldiers who were burns victims. He started the Guinea Pig Club which encouraged these scarred young men to socialise, many of whom went on to lead productive and fulfilled lives, making them phoenixes who rose from the ashes.
Several stellar young men put their best foot forward on athletics day and we are proud of them all for showing commitment to McIndoe House and honouring the OBHS Brotherhood. We are especially proud of all the new juniors who just gave everything a go and stacked the participation points in our favour.
Today we recognise those young men who excelled in athletics, based on the number of awards they won, some gaining multiple awards:
