Hostel update

By OBHS Hostel | Posted: Thursday February 13, 2025

Week 3 has unfortunately delivered us a 24-48 hour vomiting bug.

This was a wake-up call for all boys about how important their personal hygiene is, and how essential it is to wash their hands. Hand sanitiser is available, and we recommend multiple hand washes throughout the day.

This bug has been highly contagious and has spread like wildfire. On Thursday morning with over 20 boys affected John decided to get the sick boys to call their parents to arrange being collected.

Generally, the hostel rule is that if your son is sick for more than 2 days please come and collect them. It is for the greater good for sick boys to be cared for at home until fully recovered and returned to the hostel, thank you.

Year 9 Prep has begun, and the boys are taking on the challenge of earning their science badges. Leah Muir Clarke is supervising and teaching research skills and techniques for how best to paraphrase.

Congratulations to Tamati Taylor on being selected for the lead role in the musical production of Grease. We can't wait to see you transform into the charismatic Danny Zuko. We encourage all our hostel boys to get involved in support whether it is front or backstage.

A special mention and congratulations go to Freddie Hore, last year's Head of Hostel. Freddie was awarded a scholarship in Geography after scoring in the top 3% of NZ. An outstanding result that we are all very proud of.

Man of the Week - Charlie Hore

Our ‘Man of the Week’ this week goes to Year 12 student Charlie Hore. Polite, engaging, and highly motivated, Charlie is a great lad to have in the hostel. His maturity and ability to lead has him in a dorm monitor role a year early. Thanks for helping the Year 9’s settle in Charlie, keep up the good work.
