Hostel update

By John Hedges | Posted: Thursday February 6, 2025

In Week 2 we have welcomed some overdue sunshine, but alongside it has come lots of tired boys following a flurry of activity.

New Staff

A warm welcome to Leah Muir-Clarke who will be joining our hostel team as an Assistant Manager. Leah brings a fresh new energy to our staffing environment. Despite being a Hurricanes supporter, I am sure she will have a great impact on the lives of our boys this year by introducing new challenges, activities and prep structure.

Mt Aspiring Camp

Year 9 boys have made a remarkable start to their hostel life, settling well into their new routines. They returned on Monday afternoon from an enjoyable escape to the Mount Aspiring Camp where they had much fun in the wilderness. It is great to see how the camp has brought them together. Thanks to our Year 13’s for helping out.

We are proud of our rowing boys who battled hard at the South Island regatta this weekend and are shaping up well for the Maadi Cup.

Hostel Upgrade

The old House Masters flats have been freshened up this week with a coat of paint and some much needed new furniture. Three Year 13 students have moved in. Thanks to My Mate John and Vendella for the good deals.

Man of the week

We continue to acknowledge respect and good behaviour throughout the hostel with our Man of the Week award. This week's award goes to a brand new Year 9, Hunter Winmill, whose friendly, engaging nature, sense of humour and relaxed approach to life is infectious. A great start to hostel life Hunter, well done.

Reach

We appreciate your ongoing patience with the Reach programme. Remember you can email through any leave requests, or a password reset if you should encounter any technical difficulties.

Hostel Activity

Thanks to Drew at John McGlashan College for organising a joint hostel Waitangi Day activity. The boys thoroughly enjoyed competing against our hostel neighbours in touch, a quiz and various challenges. A great start to the year.
