After a term of beekeeping at school we finally got to see the rewards of our hard work.
On Wednesday we were lucky enough to take a trip out to Taieri to visit Murray Rixon at Bee Supplies Otago. We were able to have hands-on experience of the process of harvesting honey from the hives at school, and learn about the ins and outs of honey harvesting.
The entire process involved retrieving the honey from out of the bee frames by using a honey spinner, pouring the honey through a sieve to remove the beeswax, then filling a variety of jars and getting them ready for selling.
It was fascinating to learn about how honey is harvested as well as bringing home our very own jars of it.
A massive thank you to Murray Rixon and his generosity in helping us with the process.
