Earlier this month a group of us had an exciting and eye-opening visit to the local fire station.
When we arrived, the firefighters welcomed us warmly and gave us a tour of the station. We got to see where they work, rest and prepare for emergencies. They also explained their jobs and how they respond to different situations.
The most thrilling part of the day was going up the tall training tower for a rescue practice. If your "injury" was serious, you were strapped into a stretcher and carefully lowered to the ground. For minor injuries, you wore a harness and were slowly and safely lowered. It was amazing to see how much care and skill the firefighters used to make sure everyone felt secure.
After the activities, the firefighters treated us to a delicious lunch. We enjoyed pizza, fruit and pie which gave us plenty of energy after all the excitement of the day. To make the day even more special, the firefighters gave us a ride back to school in a fire engine!
This visit taught us a lot about the hard work and bravery of our local firefighters. It was a day full of learning, excitement and memories. The dedication and teamwork of the firefighters really inspired us, and a couple of us will probably consider joining the fire brigade in the future.
A huge thank you to the fire station team for making it such a special day, we hope having us helped with your training.
