This month, our Year 10 PE and Health classes are engaging in Relationships and Sexuality Education sessions, led by Justine Weatherall from Youthline and Eddie Smith, the NZ Police Dunedin Schools’ Community Officer.
These sessions align with the New Zealand Curriculum, providing accurate, age-appropriate information to support students’ personal development and wellbeing. The sessions complement prior learning done in Health classes, with students exploring topics such as physical development, sexual and reproductive health, relationships, and whānau and social dynamics. This all helps with ensuring a holistic understanding of these important areas for our young men.
This work should be seen in connection with the research we have done into being a responsible sexual citizen, and the Community of Practice we formed with 3 other schools in 2023.
