Congratulations to all our students who participated in the Under 16 and Under 18 National League tournaments over the holidays.
The Southern Scorpions U16 team included two of our very own boys, Alex Corbett and Jonathan Tavake. They played exceptionally well, advancing to the semi-finals where they faced Auckland in a thrilling match that ended in golden point time, narrowly losing 6-7. The Scorpions then took on Counties in the bronze medal game, where they fought hard but were ultimately defeated 10-24.
In the U18 side, we had five outstanding OBHS athletes: Hoani Taimalie, Te-Ava-A-Katu Nicholas, Mason Lome-Hindle, Momento Mason, and Micah Puni, representing the Southern Scorpions. Their impressive performances led them to the semi-finals alongside strong competitors Auckland, Akarana, and Counties Manukau, finishing the tournament in a commendable 4th place.
Special mention must be made to Hoani Taimalie, who was awarded the Scorpions U18 Boys Most Promising Player. Additionally, Te-Ava-A-Katu Nicholas has earned an invitation to trial for a NZ Warriors pathway team, and Mason Lome-Hindle has officially signed with the NZ Warriors, set to join their 2025 SG Ball U19 squad.
Well done to all our athletes for their hard work and dedication. We can't wait to see what the future holds for you!
