We were honoured to welcome back one of our own, Elliott Alloo (Class of 2020), to our senior assembly last week.
Elliott was part of our accelerated learning programme during his time at Otago Boys' and has just completed his Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spoke to the boys about his experiences as part of Canterbury University's Aerospace Team, which competed at Spaceport America, the world’s largest university rocket engineering competition. His team won the 30,000 division. We are grateful to Elliott for taking time out of his busy schedule to share his journey and insights with our senior students and our junior ASPIRE group.
During his visit, Elliott spoke passionately about his university experiences and the incredible challenge of designing and building a rocket capable of reaching 30,000 feet — roughly the cruising altitude of a commercial aeroplane.
His story resonated particularly with our ASPIRE group, who are currently developing their critical analysis and academic writing skills.
Thanks very much for your time, Elliott.
