Gateway Placement 2024 - Tom Dunn

This year I have been privileged to spend my Fridays doing work experience for Steve Mowat and his team.

It has been great learning new skills every Friday, learning how to use the tools and getting a better understanding of what the job entails. I have enjoyed working with the team at Steve Mowat Building and Construction and have been able to learn a new range of skills including:

• How to put up studs and how they are spaced. 

• Taking down skirting and gib. 

• Building shelves. 

• Taking out windows.

• Doing demo work.

I have enjoyed all these things, even just watching and observing how they make things. Picking up tips and tricks by asking questions, getting their opinions on tool brands, and understanding which tools are handy. Of course, I have enjoyed working with the team.

I would highly recommend doing Gateway. It can set you up for a job or help figure out if it's the right thing for you while learning along the way.
