During lunchtime on Friday, 9 August, the inaugural Junior Masterchef House competition was held.
Four teams made up of two junior students from each house had the challenge of making the best pikelets in just thirty minutes. Contestants had a recipe to follow, although they had the choice to top their pikelets with a variety of toppings.
Five judges - consisting of Ms Moore and four prefects - judged the pikelets on specific criteria including taste, texture, colour, consistency, shape, and presentation.
Overall, all the teams did extremely well to make delicious pikelets under time pressure and while working with boys they had little experience cooking with. Feedback from the judges included that some pikelets were too ‘doughy’ and that sweetness often overpowered the dish.
Congratulations to Rahui Valli and Xavier Connell from Saxton who came out on top with their chocolate infused pikelets with a dollop of cream, sliced banana, chocolate shavings and a dash of maple syrup. Presentation credit must go to McIndoe boys, Mason Hansen and Cole Churchman, who delicately decorated their pikelets with a ring of sliced bananas with cream and chocolate buttons.
Well done boys!
