NCEA Corequisite Reading, Writing and Numeracy exams

In May, a number of our Year 11 and Year 10 students sat the NCEA Corequisite Reading, Writing and Numeracy exams.

We are thrilled to share the latest results for these assessments. Our students have shown great progress in these areas due to their hard work and perseverance.

Below is a quick breakdown of these outstanding achievements for our Year 11 students:

  • Numeracy Pass Rate: 82.6% (2023 National Pass Rate: 62%)

  • Writing Pass Rate: 78.7% (2023 National Pass Rate: 64%)

  • Reading Pass Rate: 87% (2023 National Pass Rate: 68.5%)

We are pleased to see such a significant improvement, particularly in the writing results for this year level, increasing from a 40% pass rate last year as Year 10s to nearly 80% passing the writing assessment this year as Year 11s. We feel this is a result of the direct targeting and school-wide focus on improving student writing across the curriculum.

We recognise that some Year 11 students who did not quite reach the required standards will be disappointed. We encourage them to log in to the NZQA website to view the feedback provided to them. They will have a further opportunity to sit this exam in the next assessment window, which coincides with the start of our school exam period on the 18th and 19th of September.

All Year 10 students who have not yet passed their assessments or had their first attempt at them will also be entered into these exams on the 18th, 19th and 20th of September. More details will be shared with these students and their whānau in the coming weeks.

Students are encouraged to review this website we have developed to help support students and families in understanding more about these assessments.

Ka pai to everyone for your hard work and dedication!
